they were fishing in shorts and T-shirt... They have sent us some of their pictures, accompanied with their own words below. Quote: |

Latest News October/November 2009: There haven’t been that many anglers on the lake, therefore the news of October and November comes together. As there has been just a little (or no) rainfall in the mountains of the middle Atlas, the water level of the lake, at the beginning of December, is down with approx. 8m compared with the water level of March/April 2009. Nevertheless, the water level is still to be considered relatively high, for the time of the year… In October, a number of very nice sessions have been made. However, it was found to be quit difficult to catch ‘the better fish’ as there was a large number of very active, small carp. All the carp caught was in very good condition. A few bigger ‘known’ carp were caught as well and showing a weight of 2 to 4 kg higher compared to the same period of last year. This is very promising for next year. We expect a lot of carp is going to be caught between 20 and 25 kg! Seen the results on the different methods of fishing, we now can really say that the carp prefers the Atlas boilies, above any other bait… At the beginning of October, Florent and Florient caught approx. 40 carp, up to 15.5 kg, from the base camp swim. At the same moment, two other French men, Franck and Paul, started fishing in the ‘French bay’ and later on moved to the swim on the former base camp island (which came back on the surface, in the course of September). We didn’t get the information of ‘how much carp they caught’ but the biggest one was over 20 kg. At the end of October, 2 new teams arrived. Julien and ‘papi’ caught approx. 40 carp, up to 17 kg. The week after, their friends caught less carp but the scales showed 20 kg+ a few times… The week after them, Freddy and his 2 friends decided to fish purely on ‘maize only’. They caught a very high number of carp (approx. 170 !), but only approx. 10 carp were found to be 10 kg+ ! At the same swim, the week after, two French men decided to fish purely on ‘boilies only’. The second week, they were accompanied by Olivier. This strategy clearly resulted into another category of caught carp…They caught, all together approx. 130 carp. With 34 carp between 15 and 20 kg and 6 carp over 20 kg, up to 22 kg! At the same moment, 2 teams of Austrian carp fisher men, at two different swims, realized a very nice catch as well…Approx. 20 carp for the first team, with carp up to 18.5 kg. The second team, after a very difficult start, moved into another swim and caught during the last 4 day’s, approx. 50 carp, with many between 15 and 19 kg! Also in the same week, Dominique and Vincent, caught carp up to 18.5 kg. Than we come to the last teams (but not least) of November. Cyril came to fish on his own. After a difficult start and a move to another swim which hasn’t been fished for a long time, he caught approx. 25 carp. The same week, Jeoffrey and his cousin Louis started fishing from the ‘donkey’s island’, in the ‘three island area’. This island recently came back on the surface and hasn’t been fished for almost a year, as it has been under the water all the time…. They baited up with boilies only. Not only, they caught approx. 40 carp, with 10 carp between 15 and 18.7 kg…Louis also caught ‘the record carp’ at a weight of 30.1 kg! At the same time, Ronny, Gino and Stefaan were also fishing the lake. After few carp and loosing fish during the first days, and moving to other swims, they finally ended up at a swim at the island at the exit of the base camp area. During the last three day’s, they finally managed to catch approx. 50 carp. A lot of ‘smaller carp’, 7 carp between 10 and 15 kg, 3 carp between 15 and 18.7 kg, topped by a really magnificent mirror of 24.7 kg! The following week, Olivier and Johan caught carp up to 17 kg. In between, 4 Russians fished the lake, (Yuri and his friends, see Latest News of November last year…). They took over the ‘donkey’s island swim’ from the cousins Jeoffrey and Louis. They caught a lot of carp with a high number of carp between 15 and 21.5 kg. Among these carp, a very special, nice, ‘half linear carp’ of 19.7 kg. At the moment, Dutch anglers (with Peter Van Loon) are fishing the lake. Next time, the overview of December… |
| After a few day's, Louis caught 'the record carp' at a weight of 30.1 kg.This 'record carp' has been caught, exactly in the same area and in the same period, as last year, at a weight of 27 kg. This year the 'record carp' has been caught on it's highest weigth 31.5 kg, in March 2009, by Peter Van Loon from the Netherlands. We expect that, if the carp 'comes out' again, before spawning in 2010, it's weight might be aprrox. a stunning 35 kg?! |
| In total, these two French men, caught approx. 40 carp, with approx. 10 carp between15/20 kg and 'the record carp'! |

Overview August / September 2009: Only a few anglers visited the lake in August. For that reason we give the overview of August and September together. Actually, in August there were only 3 anglers present. In the beginning of August, 2 anglers caught only a few carp. It seemed to be a ‘difficult’ week. At the end of August, Pascal (France) fished the lake on his own. After a difficult beginning and changing swims, he finally realized a total of 17 carp. Most of the carp weighted between 15 and 20 kg. In the beginning of September, 4 friends, Yohan, Loic, Maxime and his girlfriend Vanessa spent the week at a swim in the base camp area. They totalized 52 carp, up to 18 kg. The following week, André and Robert fished ‘Dracula Point’ in the Islands area. They caught approx. 30 carp, also up to 18 kg. In the same week, Romain accompanied with his wife Emilie, fished a swim in the base camp area. He caught 39 carp up to 18.5 kg. Also in the same week, we had for Italians fishing in the ‘French Bay’. They caught approx. 60 carp. Finally, the last week of September, Romain & David (accompanied with their friends, non-anglers, Vincent & Sebastien), caught over 50 carp, at a swim in the base camp area. Best catch was a beautiful mirror of 20 kg+. At the same time, Jean & Tony fished ‘Dracula Point’, close to Romain. They caught 33 carp. The past summer, the lake water level did not go down very much. (approx. 5 to 6 m). A few rainstorms in September have now caused the water level to be at nearly maximum again, and this before wintertime! This has not been seen since long time! So, expectations are that the water level will be at maximum from now on, until, at least, April 2010! Furthermore, we can inform you that bookings are coming in steadily… We have only few places left in February and March 2010. The first two weeks of April 2010 are fully booked. For all the other month’s we still have lots of free places…There seems to be a lot of interest to spent the New-year time at the lake…Please contact your local representative to find out about free places…Thank you. Until next month for the overview of October 2009. |
